Winter wake-up call

WAKE UP

I like waking up early, catching the morning quiet before the rest of the world awakes, and squeezing in some cuddle time. I usually start with exercise, either running around the block, yoga, or heading into a PT session - it's the cherry on top for getting my hustle on for the day. But, Winter..? It's always a little tricky. So here, are my Winter wake up call's that help me get out of bed.

MORNING SOUNDTRACK

My disco, jazz playlist (Think Earth, Wind & Fire, Jamiroquai, Michael Jackson, and plenty of "Late Night Jazz" playlist) & the sound of our NutriBullet. Yep.

BEAUTY ROUTINE

I like anything and everything that helps hydrate, moisturise and glow my skin, so I know that I don't have to wear foundation. I'm a sucker for sleek packaging, nice fonts and a no frills approach.  Stuff that makes me feel like it's working as hard as I am throughout the day, so by night; I can trust that I still look decent & kind of fresh without having to go home and re-do. Oh, and I never leave home without a spray (or four) of Le Labo's Tubereuse 40 New York - it's subtle enough for the extra spritz, but it's fragrant enough to last the week. It's my not so secret - secret, to meeting new people, and feeling confident. It's fresh in a bottle.

Other than that, I'm trying to apply the less is more ethos in all spectrums of my life. Sounds dramatic, but it's working. I have a tendency in collecting things (might be nicer way to put hoarding?), and it doesn't help when your job is quite inclusive of the "try this", "try that" approach. There's always a fast turnover of what the next new is, and we all have.. you have to admit, a slight "disposable" approach to most things in life.. clothes, what we consume.. and product.

So.. here's the no frills edit of my morning ritual, the ones that help me through the Winter.

INTO / OILIO LUSSO BY RODIN

Mix it in, a drop for the morning, two for sleeping -- whatever cream you're using, if you want that extra penetration of moisture, oil is the best way to do it. This one's a 30ml, and smells like a treat (Lavender, my favourite). I started with rosehip, but the potency of it gives me skin reactions, this one's a 3rd oil that I've started using, and it's potent enough to give moisture, but light enough for sensitive skin. It lets it breathe.

I'm all about that sheen. Smells like a favourite (Lavender) & it's a Winter's best friend.

SMELL / 'SOUQ' by AYU

You've probably seen this one floating around the net, but there's a reason for it.

I'm always a little specific with scents as I don't particularly like smelling like other people -- I have my signature scent; Tubereuse, that I wear on the daily, and for the hustle. But this ones quite the opposite, it's a real fem, "chiller" scent. Not fresh like a cool Spring swim, like my Tubereus 40, but warm, like a hot Winter's bath. For scarf occasions and dinner at girlfriend's over wine, type of vibe. It's small and compact, perfect for sleepovers, weekends down South, and flight friendly. It's one I bring on red-eye's.

Rose, jasmine, musk, sandalwood. All the right ingredients for calming and cooling the mind. Plus because it's oil based, they last a life time.

3 in 1, Moisturiser by Embryolisse

I'm a sucker for no frills, multitasking product that I can take with me everywhere, and anywhere, and know that it will work the way I want it to. I got introduced to this by Filomena on set one day, and I've been obsessed since then. This one's a lightweight lotion, I apply over my morning moisturiser, and under make up, perfect as a primer. I haven't yet tried this in Summer, but it's been leaving me some real dewy looking skin this Winter. It's on set with me, always. I apply an especially thick layer after shooting (post make up remover, and pre whatever I have to do after), as a hydrating mask -- it has quick absorption properties, so I know it's working as much as I am - and as fast. Plus, if you've forgotten your make up remover, this works as one too.

INNER / PERFORM BY BEAR

Supplement. Taken daily.

Before this, I was sauntering the isles of Chemist Warehouse in confusion, and quite overwhelmed by the amount of products that were out there, many of the times.. I wasn't even sure if they actually worked. But.. there's a new wave of supplements are no longer just your drug store aisle pick up, they're a beauty staple, researched and created around a 'lifestyle', to fit people who are on the go, and want to look healthy and be healthy (Take a look at Mecca Trove). BEAR is a 'less is more' lifestyle brand - an approach that I very much incorporate into my life (or trying to), especially when it comes to all things health and inner beauty. No fancy gimmicks, just the simple incorporation of equating beauty with health and wellness.

When it comes to beauty, I am all about starting from the inside. It's no longer just about the one dimensional beauty approach, where products are essential for what you put on your skin. It is about what you put in your body. If I don't feel 100%, I know I won't feel 100% in the way I look.

Nathan and I were introduced to this brand earlier this year, where we got to meet Saasha & Sam burns (Melbourne based founders), on a weekend trip to Byron. I, initially starting out with Protect (perfect for flu fighting) have now moved onto PERFORM -- something a little more fitting for my lifestyle, and anyone who's on the go, on the hustle and need that extra help with focusing. Promoting 'clarity', it contains Vitamin B12 + Bacopa which actually helps enhance energy and assists with stress and mild anxiety, so yes, yes please. I take 1 tablet every morning, just 1 is enough as each of these little tablets are potent enough to get you through the day.
